Betting on Philly is nothing new for David Adelman. It started early on when, as a 13 year old, he decided to invest his Bar Mitzvah gift money in the city he loves. Driving around West Philadelphia with his mentor (Campus Apartment Founder and Sixers Superfan Alan Horwitz), he chose a property at 45th and Pine because it was the tallest one – turns out, thinking big when it comes to Philly is in his DNA!
While that first investment didn’t reflect the deep thinking of a seasoned entrepreneur, it kick-started the journey. Since then, David’s investments have grown in scale and involve more strategy, but one thing hasn’t changed – he still invests in Philadelphia.
From developing University City as CEO of Campus Apartments, to investing in local startups through his family-fund, DARCO, to helping local investors achieve their financial goals as Co-founder and Vice Chairman of FS Investments, Philadelphia is at the core of David’s work and is the driving force behind all of his endeavors.
Not only is Philadelphia at the core of David’s entrepreneurial journey, it’s also at the core of his Philanthropic work. David serves on the Penn Medicine Board of Trustees and University City District Board of Directors. He is also Chairman of the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia, and past Chairman of Philadelphia Holocaust Remembrance Foundation.
David’s successful track record of helping Philadelphia realize its full potential through his economic and philanthropic efforts– combined with his love for Philadelphia and it’s sports teams – has led him to his biggest project to date: delivering 76 Place.
